I Corps

Part of the pre-war Greek Regular Army, Army Corps "A" was stationed in Southern Greece and was responsible upon mobilisation for organising and equipping all troops in its region.

Initially no attempt had been made to defend the South-Western half of the Albanian Frontier, but as a result of the success of the lone VIII Division, who single handedly halted the initial Italian attack, the decision was made to defend the entire frontier. Consequently Army Corps A was transferred to that area and took responsibility for the extreme South-Western sector of the frontier next to the coast. At this time it was an Independent Corps reporting directly to General Papagos's Army High Command.

On the 14 February 1941 Army Corps A was transferred to the newly created A.S. Epirus which was now responsible for the South-Western half of the Albanian Front. On the 09 March 1941 General Papagos sacked the commander of Army Corps A (along with the commanders of A.S. Epirus and Army Corps B) for advocating that the war be discontinued for fear of a German attack. On 10 March 1941 the commander of Army Corps E was transferred to take command of Army Corps A.

On the 20 April 1941 the Commander of Army Corps A participated in a mutiny by the three Corps commanders (A, B, and G) against General Pitsikas (commander of A.S. Epirus), which resulted in the last remaining Greek Army being surrendered to the Germans & Italians on the 21 April 1941.
